These are stanzas from “Freedom on the Wallaby”
written by Henry Lawson published in 1897. What amazing faith drove
Australia’s Irish ancestors to travel to the new land? Henry
Lawson has captured the drama, but more importantly, the philosophy
which lies at the heart of Australian cultural heritage –
the philosopher of the working class rebel who will fight for human
dignity and not feel guilt if “blood should stain the wattle”.
This philosophy lies at the heart of the politics of the upcoming
Federal elections. Which one are you, the idler/tyrant or the rebel?
Which side are you on? To hold firm in your convictions requires
an act of faith.

Title: Stonehenge at Work
Medium: Oil on canvas

Some have faith in workings of the unseen. They have taken the messages
of the ancestors laid out like bones in the landscape and rekindled
a faith in circles, ‘bringing down the moon’ and unseen
human power. Here the first rays of a midsummer sunrise activate the
energies of Stonehenge. They become concentrated in the circle before
reflecting from the inner stones through the outer Stone doorways
across the landscape to the four directions. Some humans believe the
unseen vortex of power from the heavens is strongest at midsummer
sunrise and can be dissipated into the earth through the workings
of the vortex which they create at these times through ritual. |
